Cafcass stands for Children and Family Court Advisory Support Service.

Cafcass is independent of the courts, social services, education and health authorities and all similar agencies.

The remit

We operate within the law set by Parliament and under the rules and directions of the family courts.
Our role is to:
safeguard and promote the welfare of children, give advice to the family courts, make provision for children to be represented, provide information, advice and support to children and their families.
If your parents or carers can't sort out their problems, they might have to go to a family court. This is where judges and magistrates make important decisions about where you should live, who you should see and who should look after you.

Remember, a family court is about family matters. It is not a criminal court, which is where people go who have done something wrong.

This website will tell you who you might see and will speak to you in court and what they might ask you
