Provider Additional Information:
Manchester Rape Crisis (MRC) is a confidential support service, run by women for women and girls who have been raped or sexually abused.

MRC has a telephone helpline service, which provides advice, information and support to women and girls surviving sexual abuse. The helpline also provides a signposting service for male survivors and offers information and advice to friends, partners and other family members supporting survivors.

It offers a free face-to-face counselling service for women over 17 who have experienced rape or sexual abuse, and also offers a weekly therapy group on a Wednesday evening facilitated by trained counsellors. it provides an opportunity for women to meet together for peer support, within a supported environment.

MRC also runs group work for women who have completed counselling but who wish to access further support. The group work is aimed specifically at developing confidence and looks at issues around body image and self assertiveness. The group also provides a social network for women who may be isolated and vulnerable.

MRC is based in a local women’s centre. Women who access the services of Manchester Rape Crisis can access other activities at the centre such as drop-in groups, educational classes and alternative therapy groups.

MRC also offers informal support and advocacy to women; for example, we are involved in supporting asylum seeking women who have experienced rape and torture in their home countries.

MRC is a vital charity, which aims to support, believe and listen to women who have been raped or sexually abused.
